⭐ LEARN IT
Students are introduced to the meaning of the Greek or Latin base and explore words containing that morpheme. Activities include word building, vocabulary matching, drawing a visual representation, and Make the Connection questions that help students connect a word’s morphological structure to its meaning.
⭐ UNDERSTAND IT
Students dig deeper into six words containing the target base. Words are broken into meaningful parts—including prefixes, suffixes, and Greek or Latin bases—so students can see how morphemes work together to create meaning.
⭐ READ IT
Students apply their morphology knowledge in context through vocabulary practice, a short reading passage, and comprehension questions. These pages encourage students to use both morphology and context clues to determine word meanings while reading.

A Note About “Roots” and “Bases”:
You may be familiar with the term Greek and Latin roots. In this resource, I use the term base instead. A base is the main morpheme in a word that carries its core meaning and can have prefixes or suffixes added to it. A root is the historical word part from which related words developed.
While the terms root and base are often used interchangeably in elementary resources, they are not exactly the same. Because these worksheets focus on how meaningful word parts work within words, I use Greek and Latin basesthroughout the resource.
If you’re searching for Greek and Latin root practice, you’re in the right place! These are the word parts commonly taught as “Greek and Latin roots,” with more precise morphology terminology used in the student materials.
