Hey! I'm Emily
I’m a third grade teacher, literacy resource creator, and mom who believes learning about words shouldn’t feel complicated—for teachers, parents, or kids.
After more than a decade in the classroom, I’ve become especially passionate about helping students understand how words actually work. That means going beyond memorized spelling lists and helping kids recognize the patterns, syllables, and meaningful word parts that make reading and spelling click.
That passion is what led me to create The Miss Brown—a place where I can share practical, research-aligned resources with teachers and make today’s literacy instruction a little easier for parents to understand, too.
Because whether you’re standing in front of a classroom or helping with homework at the kitchen table, you deserve to understand the “why” behind what kids are learning.
WHEN I'M NOT TEACHING...
I’m usually spending time with my husband and our two girls, working on my latest resource idea, or convincing myself that I definitely need another cup of coffee. ☕️
